“It is great not having to carry, cut, and lay mesh every other day. Moreover, we don’t have to stumble over mesh all the time on the day of the pour.” – iCrete Commercial Concrete
Already suffering some time delays, and having successfully worked with Helix Micro Rebar reinforced concrete on other projects, the contractor was keen to persuade their client to use Helix for the main Service Station building and all of the external pavements.
Originally specified as 180mm thick with SL92 mesh this Heavy Duty Pavement covered 12,000m2. The project was already behind schedule and all involved were looking for ways to reduce costs and bring forward construction completion time-lines.
A dosage of 7kg/m3 of Helix Micro Rebar, dosed directly into the concrete trucks at the batch plant using the Helix Direct Loading Method was all that was required to eliminate the need for SL92 mesh.
The concreter was able to prepare and pour a section of the slab every day. “We required less resources on the job, including people, material and equipment.” they said. Because there was no mesh on the ground there was easy access for a laser screed and the concrete trucks. All of the concrete was pumped with ease. All parties were pleased with the finish which included black coloured concrete. Not a single Helix was visible on the surface.
The service station footings and the flawlessly burnished infill slab were also completed using Helix reinforced concrete at a dosage 11kg/m3 of Helix replacing the SL102 previously specified.
Time Savings – Schedule was back on track
Reduced Resources – Less people, material and equipment required
Costs Reduced – Helix offered cost benefits on steel and placing
Safety Increased – Trip hazards and work-site clutter reduced
Perfect Finish – No Helix visible on the surface
